Book Background

When I was young I associated personalities with various numbers and I found this helped me remember them. As I started having children of my own I found that it was a struggle to recognize certain numbers. So I decided to create books out of what helped me as a child to assist them in their love for learning. While there are certain personality traits I gave each number from my own imagination, I also did research to find qualities that each number has inherently through folklore and mathematics. Here is some of what I found:

Number 1

  • Being “number 1” is often associated with being “the best”, this is especially true in athletics
  • 1 is also “the loneliest number” (thank you Three Dog Night)
  • We often refer to ourselves as “number 1”

Number 2

  • 2 is associated with togetherness and friendship

Number 3

  • 3 is a very symbolic number in religion and science

Number 4

  • 4 is a number that makes something stable, as in transportation, architecture, and furniture

Number 5

  • 5 is a “middle” number, a number at the center
  • We have 5 senses
  • 5 is the number of fingers on a hand, and as such represents strength and control

Number 6

  • 6 is associated with the 6th planet, Venus, and a symbol of beauty and love
  • In mathematics, 6 is known as the perfect number

Number 7

  • 7 is considered a lucky number in Western cultures
  • 7 also has much symbolism in religion

Number 8

  • 8 has many interesting mathematical properties (it is a Fibonacci number, the second “magic” number, the first number neither prime nor semiprime, etc)
  • 8 is visually similar to the symbol for infinity, which holds a lot of power

Number 9

  • Number 9 often complicates mathematics for beginners

Number 0

  • 0 was recognized as a number after the other single digits
  • There were many philosophical and religious arguments surrounding the number 0 because of the question, “How can not being be?” (e.g. how can “nothing” be a “something”)
  • 0 is considered a real and imaginary number
